| Precautions | Pregnancy, Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, cardiomyopathy, attenuated neuromuscular transmission, first degree AV block, patients on �-blockers, acute phase of myocardial infarction, children. |
| Contra-Indications | Sick sinus syndrome, heart failure, AV and SA block, disopyramide within 48hours, hypotension associated with cardiogenic shock, acute stage of myocardial infarction, bradycardia, porphyria. |
| Side Effects | GI disturbances, flushing, fatigue, dizziness, headache, ankle oedema.Others: gynaecomastia, gingival hyperplasia, and hypersensitivity reactions. |
| Dosage | Hypertension: 240 - 480mg daily in 3-4 divided doses (orally). Supraventricular arrhythmias: 40-120mg TID. Slow I.V over 2 minutes (3 minutes in elderly): 5-10mg. In paroxysmal tachyarrhythmia an additional 5mg after 5-10 minutes if required. |
