Mode Of Action

Calcium channel blocker
Drug Indication Hypertension, supraventricular arrhythmias, paroxysmal tachyarrhythmia
Precautions Pregnancy, Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, cardiomyopathy, attenuated neuromuscular transmission, first degree AV block, patients on �-blockers, acute phase of myocardial infarction, children.
Contra-Indications Sick sinus syndrome, heart failure, AV and SA block, disopyramide within 48hours, hypotension associated with cardiogenic shock, acute stage of myocardial infarction, bradycardia, porphyria.
Side Effects GI disturbances, flushing, fatigue, dizziness, headache, ankle oedema.Others: gynaecomastia, gingival hyperplasia, and hypersensitivity reactions.
Dosage Hypertension: 240 - 480mg daily in 3-4 divided doses (orally). Supraventricular arrhythmias: 40-120mg TID. Slow I.V over 2 minutes (3 minutes in elderly): 5-10mg. In paroxysmal tachyarrhythmia an additional 5mg after 5-10 minutes if required.
